Thinking about doing something is not the same as doing it.
The only way to become good at something is to simply do it. Not just think and dream about doing it, but actually do it, because there is no substitute for the experience. You can’t skip through the phases of first being bad at it, not knowing, falling, and learning, but the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll master it.
Before we take a risk we want someone to promise us a successful outcome. We stop ourselves from taking a leap because we don’t know if it will be worth it. But that is how we fail ahead of time. By not even trying. The only way to know if it will be worth it is to move towards the uncertainty and try. Thinking about doing something is not the same as doing it. The only way to become good at something is to simply do it. Not just think and dream about doing it, but actually do it, because there is no substitute for the experience. You can’t skip through the phases of first being bad at it, not knowing, falling, and learning, but the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll become better at it. There are things you will have to go through and by waiting for the right time, you’re just prolonging these phases but you will have to learn them either way. It is easy to focus on what other people are doing or not doing, how they are being wrong, and what they should change to accommodate our discomfort.
It’s much harder to be anchored in integrity and practice the very things we expect from others. Consider: Are you willing and able to meet the standards and expectations you set for others? |
