"It’s not your job to tell yourself no. It’s not your job to deny yourself opportunities. It’s not your job to prevent your own progress. There are enough people in the world who will do those things for you."
-James Clear We grow and change by overcoming our fears, not by avoiding them.
Think of all the firsts that were uncomfortable and scary at the beginning, but now they come as a second nature. Avoiding fear and discomfort will keep you in the same place - standing still and wondering ‘what if?’ Strength and resilience are built in discomfort, but how you choose to support yourself through that discomfort matters. Are you using judgment and criticism to get through it or are you talking yourself up through it? Every new obstacles can either become an excuse or a new goal.
When working towards a particular goal or result, there is a great possibility that you will come across an unexpected obstacle. This is a moment when people might ask themselves: "Will I let this deter me?" "Does this mean I should quit?" or "How can I problem solve for this and keep going towards my original goal?" That obstacles can easily become a reason/excuse to turn around and quit on your goal or it can simply become a new goal. You have the power to decide. Each new day is bringing us a choice: to do the things we’ve always done (and if that works-keep doing more of that)… or to do something differently. It’s not sufficient to make this choice one time and expect that now we will be a different person. Change happens in cycles. It’s necessary to keep reminding ourselves who we want to be and who we no longer want to be. Who do I no longer want to be? I heard this question being asked by Joe Dispenza on a podcast and used it as a journaling prompt this morning. Hope you find it as powerful as I did. Happy Journaling. Don’t wait for others to change so you can be happy. If you do, you're letting others be in charge of your happiness or peace of mind.
