You don't need to earn the right to feel good- it already belongs to you!

WELLNESS COUNSELING

You may feel overwhelmed from taking care of everything and everyone, but yourself...

Trying to meet everyone's needs leaves you feeling exhausted and drained.
You want a healthy, balanced lifestyle that will make you feel comfortable in your skin, and you know that prioritizing your physical and emotional wellbeing shouldn't feel selfish. But somehow, it does. And, it feels like yet another thing on your to-do list.

Prioritizing your wellbeing is not meant to be another chore...

When you take care of yourself, you are showing others how you want and deserve to be treated. It does not mean that you are abandoning other people in your life, it means you are there for them as the best version of yourself.

Making lifestyle changes and creating new habits is not easy...

Perhaps you tried incorporating new behaviors, but you quickly find yourself exactly where you started. Relying on your willpower worked in the beginning when you were excited about your goals, but over time motivation faded away and you were back to square one.

Most attempts to create new behaviors and change one's lifestyle fail (think New Year's resolutions). This is because people focus on behaviors, but neglect psychological aspects which hold beliefs and propel our actions. Attending to the body without addressing the mind keeps resulting in continuous self-sabotage, lack of control, and feeling stuck.

Small choices you make every day greatly affect the overall quality of your life. Together we can look into what choices are keeping you from living in balance, and we can create alternatives that will make you feel fulfilled at the end of the day.

FAQ ABOUT WELLNESS

What is wellness counseling?

Wellness counseling refers to addressing aspects of one's functioning (physical, emotional, occupational, financial, spiritual, intellectual, social, and environmental) with a goal of optimizing one's quality of life. Some of these areas might already function exactly how you envision them, while others feel like a struggle. For example, you could be quite fulfilled in your career, but at the end of the day find yourself overworked and not being able to attend to relationships and other activities that are important to you. Overall, wellness is focused on emotional health and wellbeing, rather than illness.

How is it different from psychotherapy?

People who seek psychotherapy are generally propelled to understand and resolve deeper and more complex emotional wounds and patterns. While psychotherapy considers all the aspects affecting an individual, the main focus tends to be on one's emotional functioning. These concerns sometimes require longer time to heal. Wellness counseling is for individuals who are looking for a specific behavior change and it may take less time. It depends on where you are in life and what are your current needs.

What are some areas that we can address?

We will focus on increasing health-oriented behaviors and lifestyle changes. Typical areas that we can explore are: stress management, incorporating more peace and balance, learning how to set boundaries, eating healthier, incorporating activity and exercise, or ditching a bad habit.

How do I know what I need?

Oftentimes when thinking about optimal functioning, we think about "balance." However, balance feels different to different people, because not all of us have the same values and needs. Some people need a rich and fulfilled social life, others value family time, while others feel drawn to creative pursuits.

There is no one right answer.

Intuitively you will know when your values or needs are being neglected. It will be on the back of your mind, usually coming up in a judgmental voice ("ugh, I really need to stop..." or " I
should be doing..."). I don't believe that shaming and self-criticism propel a genuine, long-lasting change, but curiosity, self-understanding, and compassion surely can!

Reach out if you have any questions. I'd be honored to support your pursuit of wellbeing that will serve you (and those around you) long-term!
